Summer Activities

We are centrally located in Colorado’s playground of activities

For hikers, bikers, cross country skiers, and snowshoers we are within 1 mile of the Colorado Trail; 8 miles from La Plata Trail; 20 miles from the Mineral belt Trail; and 1 mile from the trailhead to Mount Elbert. After your trekking, enjoy a hot soak in either of the area’s Hot Springs, both located 25-30 minutes South of us at Mount Princeton or Cottonwood.

River rafting and kayaking are huge in this area and the Arkansas River is across the road from us. The nearest rafting business is 6 miles south of us; or, we can help you to shop around for the many different rafting trips offered in this area.

Both summer and ice fishing are available: Twin Lakes-1 mile; Forebay-2 miles; Clear Creek Reservoir-8 miles; and Turquoise Lake-15 miles. Or, just walk across the road for some fly and spinner fishing in the Arkansas River! Also, for gold panning, there is Lake Creek on our north side.

The nearby village of Twin Lakes offers standup paddleboard and kayak rentals. Boat tours are also available to cross the lake to visit the 1890’s Dexter Cabin and Interlaken Resort, currently being restored by the Historical Society. This restoration project can also be reached by foot or mountain bike via The Colorado Trail.

Both Buena Vista and Leadville offer an array of local artists’ paintings, photography, sculptures, and jewelry. You’ll also find antique stores, museums and train rides.

Or take the breathtaking ride over Independence Pass into Aspen; it’s only 1 hour away for a great day of shopping and fine cuisine.
